Get Your MEHKO Approved in Contra Costa County

Starting a Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation (MEHKO) in Contra Costa County is now possible!

✅ Contra Costa County approved a two-year pilot program in 2024. Permits began issuing July 1, 2024.

Steps to Apply:

Complete the MEHKO Health Permit Application and SOP form.
Submit the packet online, by email, or in person to Contra Costa Environmental Health (CCEH).
Participate in free MEHKO workshops or consultations if needed.
Pass a home kitchen inspection.
Pay the application and permit fees to begin operating.

Key Requirements:

Operator must hold a Food Safety Manager certificate; helpers need Food Handler cards.
Up to 30 meals/day or 90 meals/week allowed.
Program operates as a two-year pilot under AB 626/AB 377.
