Starting a Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation (MEHKO) in Amador County is now possible!
✅ Amador County adopted its MEHKO ordinance in 2021. Environmental Health administers the program.
Steps to Apply:
- Request and complete the MEHKO permit application and SOP template.
- Submit forms to Environmental Health with applicable fees.
- Schedule and pass a home kitchen inspection.
- Receive your one-year permit to operate.
Key Requirements:
- Operator must be a Certified Food Safety Manager; helpers must hold Food Handler cards.
- 30 meals/day or 90 meals/week maximum.
- Annual sales limited to $100,000.
